Change

 All that you touch

You Change.

All that you Change

Changes you.

The only lasting truth

Is Change.

God

Is Change.

This is the first quote from Earthseed: books of the living, at the beginning of the first chapter.

I think that this is a very important quote, it signifies what is to come in the rest of the book. I don't know much about christianity but I don't think the main focus is on change.

Something to notice is that the word "Change" is capitalized. Since God is also supposed to be capitalized I believe this holds some significance with that. Maybe "Change" is sacred now.

All that you touch you change. I think this phrase could be very helpful from a mental health standpoint, believing that everything you do has an impact, you are not insignificant.

All that you change changes you. This phrase is used to help this new religion, to help all those who believe realize that they are constantly changing, you are not the person today that you were yesterday and you will be different tomorrow.

The only lasting truth is change. This sounds like a ritual phrase like at the end of a prayer or something of the sort. It also helps signify that change is very important to the books of the living and those who follow them.

God is change. This brings it back to religion, God is the change that they worship essentially.

  1. I agree, that quote is very striking. It's a bit different from the way God is often seen as unchanging and eternal, the beginning and the ending. I'm not sure what to make of this but I like your interpretation.
